Post New business
Hello to all florists. I've been a floral designer for 10 years , just reciently opened my own little flower shop here in Northern Michigan. Does any one have any cool ideas on how I can market my business? Something diffrent , eye catching? I don't have alot of money to advertize. I am taking advantage of all free advertizing I can . Thank you for any ideas.

A really good way to advertise, especially when trying to break in as a new shop, is to send out your product.  Small taseful, stylish fresh arrangements sent to schools (Welcome to the New Year) , Hotels lobbies, Country Clubs, Golf Courses etc....we do Hair Salons as well...

On thing that has worked well even for us (established in 1948) is to send to all new businesses and Grand Openings...just a small arr, with a Congrats card, signed by the store....

Best wishes....

Where abouts in Northern Missuagain?? I'm in Midland....

One of the first and best things you can do is creat a unique (something different and eye catching) logo to start "branding" your new flower shop. If you want to send me an image of your logo, I would be glad to look at it. With this new logo design, it would help create your new "different & eye catching" business cards, letter head, van graphics, business sign, enclosure cards & envelope,  etc.. This is not all that expensive and is very important in putting an image in your customers/recipients heads when they see your product's enclosure card/envelope, business signage, etc.. The other thing that is very important and does not take "alot of money" is creating a website showing your unique designs to your Northern Michigan town. Also....if you have not already.....visit the florist forum, www.flowerchat.com for a great community of other florists.

Hy Myanna, I just posted this in a separate topic but I thought it would be helpful to post here as well.

At Florists Near You, http://www.floristsnearyou.com/ we have launched a directory where local florists can post a free listing for their business. It is a free way to get traffic and links to your website. We have just launched but we plan on becoming the premier florist directory on the internet.

Thanks.

I have been in the business for 20 years and have just opened my own shop February 7, 2006. I am in the same boat with little monet to advertise. I have done several things to get my name out there. First, I found a paper willing to write a full page about my grand opening. I have had at least 25 customers contact me after reading the article. Secondly, I send an arrangement a week to a randomly selected business in my town with a letter introducing myself and telling what my shop offers. There is no real sales pitch just information, business cards and of course the arrangement. I have gotten quite a return on that. i get customers in all the time that were curious because they saw the arrangement in somewhere they frequent. I have also done a few freebies. We had a jazz festival that I did 6 arrangement for and a fund raiser with ten centerpieces. Those are a bit more costly and you can't do them all the time, but pick and choose the better events for better cliet turnout. You have to get out there with your product in order to get the word of mouth going. If you sit in your shop and expect them to come to you, you'll be waiting forever and hurting for cash in the meantime.
